How to use Discount Calculator
A discount reduces a price by a proportion of that price. If a second discount is applied, its base is the already-discounted amount. Two successive discounts therefore do not usually add to one total discount.
For example, 20% off followed by 10% off leaves 72% of the original price, which is an effective 28% discount. Use zero for the extra discount if there is only one offer. Delivery fees and taxes are not part of this estimate.
The formula
A worked example
Original price (₹): 999 · First discount (%): 35 · Extra discount (%): 0
Price after discount: ₹649.35
The second discount applies to the reduced price, not the original price. Taxes and delivery are excluded.
Questions about this calculation
Are 20% and 10% discounts equal to 30% off?
No. Successive discounts produce 28% off because the second applies to the reduced price.
How do I calculate a single discount?
Set the extra discount to zero.
